Chandigarh : Punjab cabinet led by CM Bhagwant Mann today took a decision that election symbols of political parties would not be used in up-coming Panchayati elections. Only the symbols allotted by the Election Commission would be used by the candidates for the elections of Panch and Sarpanch, stated Finance Minister Harpal Cheema after the cabinet meeting.
“Rule 12 of the Panchayati Raj Act has been amended. The amendment was made to prevent political interference in the Panchayats. Now the Panchayat elections in Punjab will be contested without symbols,” said Harpal Cheema.
