POSHAN MAAH 2024 inaugrated

Chandigarh: The observance of the 7th Rashtriya Poshan Maah, to promote nutrition and eradicate malnutrition, commenced with a grand inauguration ceremony today. The event marked with a special plantation drive under the theme “Ek Ped Maa ke Naam” by Sh. Satya Pal Jain, Additional Solicitor General of India, Ex-MP (Lok Sabha), and Chairman Social Welfare Advisory Committee at Composite Anganwadi Building Palsora, Chandigarh. Members of Social Welfare Standing Committee of Administrator’s Advisory Council were also present during the event.
This event also marked with celebration of Annaprashan Day with initiation of complimentary feeding for children who have completed 6 months. The beneficiaries were sensitized on importance of complimentary feeding. Further, the beautifully designed Rangolis made by Anganwadi Workers, on the theme of “Ek Ped Ek Maa Ke Naam” and POSHAN Maah also caught the eyes of spectators.
On this day mass plantation drives were also organized at 450 Anganwadi Centres and at all line departments of U.T., Chandigarh to contribute to national goal of environment sustainability and community wellbeing.
Sh. Satya Pal Jain highlighted the significance of this one-month program, which aims to raise awareness about nutrition not only among the Anganwadi beneficiaries i.e. Children upto age of 6 years, pregnant women, & lactating mothers but also the overall population of UT Chandigarh at large. All line departments of UT Chandigarh are actively participating in the program, with the shared goal of eradicating malnutrition through collaborative efforts, transforming it into a Jan Andolan (People’s Movement). This 7th Rashtriya POSHAN MAAH will be celebrated with a focus on themes of Anaemia, Growth Monitoring, Complementary Feeding, Poshan Bhi Padhai Bhi, Use of technology for better Governance, Apart from this plantation of trees under the Campaign ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ and other general sensitization activities
Dr. Palika Arora, PCS, Director Social Welfare, Women & Child Development, Chandigarh Administration also informed that since 2018, POSHAN Maah & POSHAN Pakhwada are being celebrated in full enthusiasm in U.T., Chandigarh and more than 5 lakhs activities have been conducted during the celebration of six Rashtriya Poshan Maahs.
The diligent efforts of the Mission Saksham Anganwadi & Poshan 2.0 team were highly appreciated by the Sh. Satya Pal Jain, former Member of Parliament. He emphasized the importance of maintaining momentum throughout POSHAN MAAH 2024 to make Chandigarh a malnutrition-free UT.
